The
Community Food Projects (CFP) Competitive Grants Program provides funding
for community-based food and agriculture projects in the US. Approximately
$4.6 M in grant funds will be available in 2004. The
Request for Applications is expected to be released on Jan. 30, with
proposals due April 14, 2004. The
Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC) will offer assistance to CFP
grant applicants at no cost.

AoA's
Compendium
of Active Grants FY 2002 reveals the wide range of useful and relevant
research, demonstration project, training, technical assistance and other
activities sponsored and funded by the AoA.

New
grants.gov
web site offers one-stop shopping for information on applying for all
federal grants. The site includes a “Find Grant Opportunities” feature
to help applicants find potential funding opportunities and an “Apply for
Grants” feature that allows applicants to download, complete and submit
applications for specific grant opportunities from any federal grant-making
agency.

the FNS: Building
for the Future Awards 2004 nominations are open to all State agencies
and sponsoring organizations that go beyond basic regulatory requirements
and have led to highly efficient, effective and accessible nutrition programs.

has launched a peer-reviewed electronic journal, Preventing
Chronic Disease: Public Health Research, Practice, and Policy (PCD),
targeted to researchers in chronic disease prevention and intervention,
as well as health professionals who deal with chronic conditions and population
health.

FDA’s
Tips
for Older Dietary Supplement Users: a new tool designed for older consumers
regarding dietary supplement use and the importance of consulting their
health care team.

USDA offers the
Interactive Healthy Eating Index and the Physical Activity Tool to
help Americans calculate the effect of eating and exercise; provides suggestions
for improving eating and physical activity habits.
